The Palazzotto is a design hotel located in the heart of Sasso Barisano in Matera: a few steps from the historic Cathedral and just a 5-minute walk from the historic centre, where you can find the best restaurants and main shops in the city.
Its name recalls a distant era in which it was an isolated structure in the historic Sassi district, but even today it stands out among the neighbouring buildings for its original details, such as the balcony with the characteristic ornamental brackets carved into the stone, the so-called big cats .
Inside, ten exclusive residences, furnished with minimal and contemporary taste, evoke the charm of prehistoric caves, symbol of the UNESCO World Heritage city.
A design that reworks the essential structure of the typical cave house in a perfect balance between modernity and history.
Home has a strong meaning for us Italians. It means comfort, pleasure, hospitality, family and tranquility.
These are precisely the values that guided me in the design of Il Palazzotto.
I took care of every detail with love, as if it were my home. The warmth of the lights, the atmosphere that only candles can create, the detail of every single ornament, the refinement of the fabrics. Sitting on the sofas, I often looked around, contemplating the high vaults, the incredible originality and beauty of each room, immersed in the silence of the caves.
I wanted Il Palazzotto to speak to me, to tell me its history, the incredible number of people who have walked on this stone floor before me. Our Palazzotto has its history and secrets that date back to our ancestors.
In the long renovation work I tried to respect its glorious past, trying to preserve its original beauty and peculiarity. I tried to make it my home and therefore also yours.
I hope it can also inspire its guests, with its history, culture and the beauty it inspires in every environment. Because it is not a simple stay, but an unforgettable experience in a place with a thousand-year-old charm.
